It is workout Wednesday and Paula, who works with us at our sister company, Avian as a creative designer is also a fitness instructor!  She has a few tips that she’d like to share with you before you hit the gym!

  1. Eat slow digesting carbs before you work out, such as whole grains paired with fruit in order to burn more fat during the day. A few good foods that are slow digesting are: oatmeal, sweet potatoes, bananas, and whole wheat toast.
  2. Avoid higher fat meals before you exercise. High fat meals decrease the ability of nitric oxide to dilate blood vessels.  This actually causes you to feel tired and sluggish.  Goodbye fast food!
  3. Get plenty of sleep the night before. I know this may seem difficult, but force yourself to get to bed early, even if it means lying awake and relaxing.
  4. Caffeine! Research shows that caffeine taken pre-workout increases fat burning and endurance, but don’t forget to stay hydrated.
  5. Have fun! There’s no point in stressing your mind and body.  I truly believe that the key to fitness success is having fun.  Overcoming your fear of judgment is essential when it comes to reaching your body goal.
