Placement at Blue2 Digital Craig Archibald

This April, I had the opportunity to undertake a 4-week internship as part of my, MSc Digital Marketing course at Robert Gordon University. Working in an agency like Blue2 was something that I was especially keen on, where I would be working on a range of projects, in a fast-paced environment, with like-minded people.

I contacted Blue2 to enquire if I could assist with any projects after being impressed with the diverse range of clients that Blue2 has worked with.  The services they provide to clients tied in with what I was learning in class and so it seemed a perfect fit. Ashley Blake, Blue2’s Digital Marketing Manager got in touch and after interview agreed to take me on for the month!

My internship kickstarted with one of the daily ‘scrum’ meetings where everyone shares what they are working on that day and any issues/queries they have.  It was a great way to introduce myself and meet the team as well as gaining more of a feel for what Blue2 does.

The main goal of my internship was to gain a broad overview of the different areas within digital marketing and how they are applied in context.  My time at Blue2 has definitely delivered on this. I was given the responsibility to work with a number of clients and tasks including SEO, creation of newsletters, blogs, PPC campaigns and social media management which really made me feel valued. I was also able to regularly attend client meetings which allowed me to develop my communication skills.

Having some fundamental knowledge of Google Ads prior to starting, I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of how to use this service; and with the help of Ashley (and her expert understanding of this area), she provided me with the training to be able to confidently work on various campaigns independently.

Social media account management was another area that I was given responsibility for; regularly creating and posting relevant and timely content for clients. I had little experience of this but thankfully Becca McCallum, Digital Marketing Analyst, was a huge help, assisting with any issues that I came across.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience and would like to thank Ashley, Becca and the wider Blue2 team for making me welcome and helping me gain valuable knowledge, insight and experience.
